Archduke Albrecht of Austria, Duke of Teschen (Albrecht Friedrich Rudolf Dominik; 3 August 1817 – 18 February 1895), was an Austrian Habsburg general. He was the grandson of Emperor Leopold II and one of the chief military advisors of Emperor Francis Joseph I. As Inspector General for 36 years, he was an old-fashioned bureaucrat who largely controlled the Austro-Hungarian Army and delayed modernisation.


Marriage[edit]

On 1 May 1844 in Munich he married Princess Hildegard of Bavaria, daughter of Ludwig I of Bavaria and Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.


Issue[edit]

  1. Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria (15 July 1845 - 8 October 1927) married Philipp, Duke of Württemberg and had issue.
  2. Archduke Karl of Austria (3 January 1847 -19 July 1848) died in infancy.
  3. Archduchess Mathilda of Austria (25 January 1849 - 6 June 1867) died unmarried.
