Maria Bárbara of Portugal (Maria Madalena Josefa Teresa Bárbara; December 4 1711 – August 27 1758) was the eldest child of King John V of Portugal, of the House of Braganza, and Maria Anna of Austria. Considered as a bride for Louis XV of France. Her father ordered the construction o the Royal Palace of Mafra as a result of her long awaited birth and was named Maria Bárbara, in honour of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of her birthday. Maria Bárbara was also an aunt of Queen Maria I of Portugal.
