Daniel Timo, Prince of Saxony, Duke of Saxony (born 23 June 1975) is a disputed head of the Royal House of Saxony and considered a possible heir to the throne of Poland.
Early life[edit]
Prince Daniel was born in Duisburg, Germany the eldest son and heir of Rüdiger, Prince of Saxony and his first wife Astrid Linke (1949–1989).[1] Prince Daniel belongs to the so-called Mortizburg branch of the Royal House of Saxony named after the former estate of his great grandfather Prince Ernst Heinrich of Saxony which was lost after the Second World War.
After graduating from high school, Prince Daniel moved from Westerwald to Aachen to study business.[2]
Career[edit]
In 2002 he moved to Moritzburg where he founded the Wettin Forest Administration with his father the family having brought back part family's former forest. In 2003 he begun studying forestry at the Dresden University of Technology.[2]
In 2007 Prince Daniel took over the running of the Wettin Forest Administration from his father.[2]
Saxon prince[edit]
Prince Daniel's status as a royal prince is disputed as his grandfather Prince Timo's marriage to Margit Lucas was regarded as morganatic by the head of the Royal House of Saxony, Friedrich Christian, Margrave of Meissen which was a position maintained by his elder son Maria Emanuel, Margrave of Meissen.[3] After the death of Maria Emanuel the succession was disputed between his brother Albert and their nephew Alexander who was the adopted son and heir of Maria Emmanuel. After the death of Albert on 6 October 2012, Prince Daniel's father immediately renounced his claim in favour of his eldest son Prince Daniel.[4] Due to the unresolved dispute Prince Daniel has not adopted the title of Margrave of Meissen.
In 2017, he distanced himself from actively claiming the Polish throne which was occupied by his ancestors Augustus II the Strong, Elector of Saxony between 1697 and 1706 and again between 1709 and 1733, followed by his son Augustus III of Poland between 1733 and 1763 as the elected kings of Poland. King Frederick Augustus I of Saxony was the Grand Duke of Warsaw between 1807 and 1815.[5]
Family and personal life[edit]
In 2011, Prince Daniel married Sandra Scherer, a scientist. They had a daughter Princess Anna-Catharina Sophie, born 2013, and a son, Prince Gero Friedrich Johann, born 2015.
