Duarte Maria de Sousa Araújo Martins (born 14 May 1992), is a Portuguese lawyer known for his relationship with the Infanta Maria Francisca, Duchess of Coimbra, the daughter of Duarte Pio, Duke of Braganza and Isabel de Herédia.

Birth and family[edit]

Duarte de Sousa was born on May 14, 1992 in Lisbon, son of Pedro Martins and Maria do Carmo de Sousa Araújo. He has three brothers. Maternal grandson of the well-known architect João de Sousa Araújo.[1]

Training[edit]

Duarte de Sousa Araújo Martins has a degree in Law from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and a Master of Laws (Banking and Finance Law) from Queen Mary University, in London.[2]

Professional life[edit]

Duarte is a lawyer, and currently Senior Associate at the law firm Uría Menéndez - Proença de Carvalho, specialized in capital markets and mergers and acquisitions. He carried out voluntary work throughout his life, namely as General Head of Missions at the Faculty of Law of the University.[3]

The Duke and Duchess of Bragança announced the engagement of Infanta Maria Francisca and Duarte on December 15, 2022. The couple got engaged in East Timor at the beginning of the month.

Marriage[edit]

The wedding of Infanta Maria Francisca and Duarte de Sousa Araújo Martins is scheduled to take place in October 2023. On May 19, 2023, Duarte Pio, Duke of Bragança and Isabel de Herédia, announced their marriage and announced the date of the wedding and some of its details:
