Ferdinando I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany (30 July 1549 – 3 February 1609) wis Grand Duke of Tuscany from 1587 till his death in 1609, haein succeeded his older brother Francesco I.


Marriage[edit]

On 3 May 1589, he married Christina of Lorraine, the favourite granddaughter of Catherine de' Medici.

  1. Cosimo II de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany (12 May 1590 – 28 February 1621) married Archduchess Maria Maddalena of Austria and had children.
  2. Maria Maddalena de' Medici (29 June 1600 – 28 December 1633)never married.
  3. Eleonora de' Medici (10 November 1591 - 22 November 1617) never married.
  4. Caterina de' Medici (2 May 1593 – 17 April 1629) married Ferdinando Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua but had no children. Later created governor of Siena.
  5. Francesco de' Medici (14 May 1594 - 17 May 1614) created Prince of Capestrano (1611/1613?) never married.
  6. Carlo de' Medici (19 March 1595 - 17 June 1666) Cardinal, never married.
  7. Filippo "Filippino" de' Medici (9 April 1598- 3 April 1602) died young.
  8. Lorenzo de' Medici (1º August 1599 – 15 November 1648) never married.
  9. Maria Maddalena de' Medici (29 June 1600 – 28 December 1633) never married.
  10. Claudia de' Medici (4 June 1604 – 25 December 1648) married Federico Ubaldo della Rovere, Duke of Urbino and had children, married (2) Leopold V, Archduke of Austria and had children.
