Princess Maria Elisabeth of Bavaria, consort of Prince Pedro Henrique, was the last holder of the title Empress Consort of Brazil.

A royal consort is the spouse of a regnant or de jure emperor or empress. The consorts of Brazilian monarchs do not have constitutional status or power, but many have had significant influence and support the sovereign in his duties. There were 5 royal consorts, 4 women and 1 man.

Empress Teresa Cristina, wife of Emperor Pedro II, is the longest-serving consort of all time and served for nearly 46 years until her death in 1889. After Prince Pedro Henrique wedding on 19 August 1937, his wife Princess Maria Elisabeth of Bavaria held the title of Empress Consort until 1981. Currently, as Prince Bertrand, current titular Emperor of Brazil never married and never had children, the position remains vacant, and it is expected that the wife of Prince Imperial Antônio, Princess Christine de Ligne will become the future titular Empress Consort.
