Louis Auguste de Bourbon, Duke of Maine (31 March 1670 – 14 May 1736) was an illegitimate son of Louis XIV and his official mistress, Madame de Montespan. The king's favourite son, he founded the legitimised Maine branch of the House of Bourbon.



Marriage[edit]

Several potential brides were considered for him, including his first-cousin, Élisabeth Charlotte d'Orléans eventually on 19 May 1692 at the Palace of Versailles the Duke of Maine married Louise Bénédicte de Bourbon, Mademoiselle d'Enghien a daughter of Henri Jules de Bourbon, Prince of Condé
