Ludovico I of Etruria also called Louis I ( Ludovico Francesco Filiberto; 5 July 1773  – 27 May 1803) was the first of the only two kings of Etruria. Ludovico was the son of Ferdinand, Duke of Parma, and Archduchess Maria Amalia of Austria, sister of Marie Antoinette.

Marriage[edit]

Ludovico married Infanta Maria Luisa of Spain, daughter of King Charles IV of Spain and Maria Luisa of Parma and sister of Queen Carlota Joaquina of Portugal as well as Queen María Isabella of the Two Sicilies. They married on 25 August 1795 in the the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso.


Issue[edit]

  1. Prince Carlo of Parma 22 December 1799  – 16 April 1883) married Princess Maria Teresa of Savoy and had issue.
  2. Princess Maria Amalia of Parma (21 November 1800  – 17 April 1802) died in infancy from influenza.
  3. Princess Maria Carolina of Parma (21 November 1800  – 13 April 1803) twin sister of the above and died after a seizure.
  4. Princess Maria Luisa Carlota of Parma (2 October 1802  – } 18 March 1857) married Maximilian, Hereditary Prince of Saxony but had no issue.
