Louis Philippe d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans (12 May 1725 – 18 November 1785) was Duke of Orléans and a great-grandson of King Louis XIV of France, as well as the grandfather of King Louis Philippe I of the French. He sold the Château de Saint Cloud to Queen Marie Antoinette in 1785.






First marriage[edit]

On 17 December 1743 in the Royal Chapel of the Palace of Versailles the young Duke of Chartres married Louise Henriette de Bourbon.


Children[edit]

  1. A daughter (13 July 1745 – 14 December 1745).
  2. Philippe d'Orléans (13 April 1747, – 6 November 1793) married Louise Marie Adélaïde de Bourbon an had children.
  3. Bathilde d'Orléans (9 Julie 1750 – 10 January 1822) married Louis Henri de Bourbon, Prince of Condé an had children.


Second marriage[edit]

O 23 April 1773, the Duke of Orléans married his mistress Madame de Montesson, having sought permission from King Louis XV of France who allowed the union to take place on the condition that she never become Duchess of Orléans or be awarded any of the titles associated with the House of Orléans. The couple had no children together.
