A Regent was a person who ruled a state or country in place of a monarch who was unable to do so at the time.

- Philippe, Duke of Orléans (grandson of the above Queen Anne and regent of France for the young Louis XV for a period called the Regency of Philippe d'Orlèans.

- Infanta Isabel Maria of Portugal regent of Portugal for her brother King Pedro IV of Portugal.
- Maria Christina of the Two Sicilies regent of Spain for her daughter the child Queen Isabel II of Spain.
- Maria Cristina of Austria regent of Spain for her young son King Alfonso XIII of Spain.
- Isabel, Princess Imperial of Brazil regent of Brazil for her father Emperor Pedro II of Brazil.
